YouTube Shopping products across videos and stores
Separate YouTube Shopping store products, creator tags, local retailer offers and affiliate reporting by source and market.
Separate connected creator stores from affiliate product tags
YouTube Shopping can feature a creator's own store products or products from other brands. A connected-store feed, an affiliate tag and a retailer checkout offer have different owners and data sources.

| Shopping relationship | Source context | Keep distinct from |
|---|---|---|
| Creator's connected store | An eligible creator connects a supported store/platform; product data is managed by the merchant or participating store platform. | A product tagged from another retailer or the creator's video record. |
| Onboarded store feed | Google Merchant Center's YouTube Store source can link products to channels using youtube store url, youtube store name, youtube channel id and youtube group id attributes. | Assuming every creator or public product uses this exact feed path. |
| Other-brand product tag | A creator tags a retailer/brand product in eligible content; affiliate program terms may apply. | The creator owning the product or being its seller. |
| Retailer offer | Product information, current availability, purchase terms and fulfillment are determined by the merchant/retailer. | A permanent YouTube offer or completed order. |
Keep video metadata separate from product-tag placement
A YouTube video resource and a Shopping association answer different questions. Preserve the content identity first, then add a separate edge for any product tag observed on that content or supplied by an authorized channel record.

| Record | Useful source fields | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Video resource | Video ID, channel ID, title, description and publishedAt from the documented Data API video resource. | The video resource is not documented as the Shopping product-tag schema. |
| Content format/surface | Standard video, Short or livestream label and the surface where a product is shown. | A product can appear in a channel store, description, product shelf or pinned live-stream list. |
| Product association | Visible product name/card, linked retailer or store destination, association time and tag order when visible or authorized. | A tag does not establish that the content creator owns, reviewed or sold the item. |
| Timestamped tag | Product-to-video time position when provided in an authorized Studio record. | YouTube's help says timestamps apply to long-form videos at least one minute long; do not infer one from a Short or livestream. |
| Shorts sticker | First tagged product and its order in the eligible tagged-product list when visible. | The sticker is a content-placement rule, not a ranking of product quality or sales. |
Preserve the local retailer offer behind an international tag
Product details shown to viewers depend on merchant country-of-sale settings, and YouTube says international Shopping tags may be matched to the same product from a trusted local affiliate merchant. YouTube Help says tags on videos marked Paid Product Placement are not altered or localized. Record what the viewer's market actually sees rather than assuming the creator's original item and price travel unchanged.

| Market/offer field | Record when displayed | Comparison boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Viewer market | Country or region where the product information was observed and the stated shipping-area notice. | A product hidden or limited for one country is not proof of global unavailability. |
| Merchant and destination | Local retailer/fulfilling merchant and the product destination URL. | Keep the click-through retailer distinct from the creator's channel or store platform. |
| Displayed amount | Price, currency and visible tax or discount context when shown. | Retailer data may change; verify on the merchant destination before treating a value as current. |
| Availability/shipping | Offer availability and shipping coverage for the viewer's country when presented. | Do not infer local shipping from the creator's location or original product tag. |
| Paid Product Placement | Disclosure state and the tagged merchant/item when the video is marked as sponsored content. | YouTube says it does not alter or localize those tags; do not assume the local-match behavior applies. |
| Observation time | Timestamp and view context for the localized product card. | A later store response may differ from the earlier YouTube display. |
Separate tags, creator performance and affiliate earnings
A product tag or click is not an order. Creator Studio and Merchant Center reports contain account-scoped performance and commission details; preserve their owner, period and attribution state instead of treating those figures as public product fields.

| Signal | Where it belongs | Do not infer |
|---|---|---|
| Public tag or view | Visible content placement and viewer-facing product relationship. | A click, view or tag as a completed purchase. |
| Creator Shopping analytics | Authorized channel report for tagged-product engagement or performance, with its reporting window. | Publicly visible engagement as private Shopping conversion data. |
| Merchant affiliate rate | Merchant-set rate for a product/brand or a creator-specific offer, recorded with its effective context. | A fixed lifetime rate that is independent of offer or date. |
| Commission outcome | Purchase date, attribution window and settled/reversed status in the authorized affiliate report. | The rate shown when the creator tagged the product as the payout rate; returns/cancellations may reverse commission. |
| Retail order | Order and fulfillment records held by the merchant/retailer or connected platform. | A YouTube content event or product listing as the order record. |
