The RealReal data: luxury listings, condition & price

Compare The RealReal item-level luxury listings, condition and price states; separate consignment status, authentication claims and seller payout data.

Treat each RealReal listing as a one-off item record

The RealReal describes its service as a luxury resale marketplace and consignment operation. One listed physical item can differ from a similar-looking piece by size, material, color, condition, measurements and listing state; it is not automatically the same record as a designer/model reference.

Separate the buyer's current price from a consignor's net proceeds

The RealReal's Consignment/Sales Agreement says it sets the initial list price, may apply discounts and treats MSRP as a reference. Its defined Net Selling Price is the sale price less discounts/promotions and excluding taxes and shipping; a separate commission rate determines account-side consignor compensation.

Displayed list priceThe buyer-facing price assigned by The RealReal for an accepted item; prices may change during consignment.A dated ask, not a completed sale or fixed MSRP.
Discount or promotionA source-applied price change that can affect the amount at sale.Keep the displayed price and discount state together; do not treat an undiscounted reference as a current offer.
Net Selling PriceSale amount after applicable discounts/promotions, excluding taxes and shipping, as defined by the agreement.A source term, not the consignor's payout.
Commission or direct offerCommission is calculated separately under a rate schedule; Get Paid Now, Trade-In credit and consignment are distinct account offers.Private seller terms/offer/payout; not fields on a public buyer listing.

Keep condition, authentication and brand involvement distinct

The RealReal's current FAQ lists Pristine, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair and As Is condition labels. Its Terms say authentication is conducted in-house and that brands shown on the Service are not involved in authentication and are not partners or affiliates. Attribute both statements to the source; neither label establishes a brand endorsement or an independent assessment by a data collector.

Pristine to As IsThe RealReal's source-defined item-condition labels; category details and acceptance criteria can differ.Do not normalize to another resale platform's grades or independently certify the item's state.
In-house authenticationThe RealReal says its own team conducts product authentication, using its internal process.Do not describe the brand as the authenticator or imply the designer endorses the listing.
Category-specific reportFine jewelry, watches and art may carry separate appraisal, condition or specialist-report details.Do not apply a report field set to apparel or treat seller-provided description as a warranty.
Consignor claimsThe Consignment/Sales Agreement makes acceptance and evaluation subject to The RealReal's process and discretion.A current buyer-facing claim is not the consignor's private review or a third-party guarantee.

Model consignments as seller-side lifecycle states

Under The RealReal's consumer Consignment/Sales Agreement, items move through receipt, evaluation and acceptance before being listed. A consignment period begins when an item is accepted and lasts 365 days; a seller may request an unsold accepted item back under the agreement. MySales status, return requests and payout are account-side records.

Use the Vendor API only for vendor-owned virtual inventory

The RealReal documents a separate Virtual Inventory Public API for vendor onboarding and item workflows. The Vendor Portal issues OAuth client credentials to accounts with the required permissions; the API manages that vendor's consignments and items, rather than searching The RealReal's consumer retail catalog.

ConsignmentCreation is handled internally by The RealReal; API list/get operations return consignments belonging to the authenticated vendor.Keep consignment ID, status and timestamps within the vendor's authorized account scope.
Vendor itemThe item model includes vendor SKU, item/variant identifiers, designer, taxon, condition, quantity, price and timestamps.Vendor SKU differs from The RealReal's own SKU/identifier; do not use a vendor record as a public marketplace item ID.
Price representationThe model summary describes `price` as integer cents, while a documented non-approved-item example represents currency and price as separate fields.Preserve endpoint, validation state, currency and raw amount; verify the current route schema before normalization.
WorkflowThe docs describe Post-Sale Auth Ship and Expedited Ship after The RealReal approval, plus item status updates/cancellations/returns.This is vendor fulfillment and inventory data, not consumer market-price history or public stock.

Review the posted access rules before automated collection

The RealReal's posted Terms of Service, last updated 1 May 2023, prohibit data-mining/robots and similar data-gathering tools and third-party applications interacting with the Service without prior written consent. Its current robots.txt also excludes account, cart, checkout, order, consignment and cursor-paginated paths. The vendor API is a separate documented workflow and does not grant general retail catalog collection rights.
