Sedo domain data: listings, offers and auction signals
Understand Sedo domain offers, bids, reserves and expiring auctions. Distinguish listing views from domain traffic and a visible bid from sale or transfer.
A Sedo listing concerns a domain name, not automatically a website or business
Sedo's U.S. Domain Marketplace Agreement describes a domain listing as an offer concerning the registration right or exclusive right to register a domain, with or without website content. Sedo says it is neither buyer nor seller; listing details and statistics are the seller's responsibility. Treat any included site, content or business assets as separate unless the listing says they transfer.

| Record | What it represents | Do not infer |
|---|---|---|
| Domain name | The exact name and top-level domain offered through a selected Sedo listing format. | A domain alone does not establish ownership of a website, company, content or trademark rights. |
| Seller listing | An owner-created offer or auction surfaced on Sedo and, where applicable, its partner network. | Sedo's facilitation does not make it the seller or independently verify every seller statement. |
| Included website assets | Content or other material only where the seller describes it as part of the negotiated sale. | Do not assume a site, analytics account, traffic stream or other asset transfers with the domain registration. |
Keep Buy Now, Make Offer and auction states separate
Sedo's agreement defines different buyer actions for each listing type. A displayed figure can be a fixed Buy Now price, a negotiable offer or a bid inside an auction; it is not one interchangeable market price.

| Listing state | Source meaning | Comparison rule |
|---|---|---|
| Buy Now | Seller posts a fixed price as an offer to sell at the stated amount; a lower buyer offer may be accepted where offered. | Keep the displayed currency and price label. A lower submitted offer is not an accepted sale. |
| Make Offer | Seller invites negotiation without a fixed selling price; a minimum-offer setting is a threshold for considering offers. | Do not store the minimum as an asking price or sale value. |
| Auction | Bidders submit offers under the selected auction format and its reserve rules. | The visible high bid may be below an undisclosed reserve; a bid is not proof the domain sold. |
| After sale | Payment, domain transfer and any transfer of separate website assets are distinct steps. | Do not infer completed transfer from a removed listing or an ended auction alone. |
Listing views and domain traffic describe different things
Sedo says information shown with an active listing may include seller jurisdiction, seller-account age, previous bids, views of the Sedo listing and domain-traffic statistics when the owner directs the domain to Sedo's nameservers. Sedo also places responsibility for listing information and statistics on the seller. Preserve the exact source label and period rather than merging unlike interest signals.

| Displayed signal | What it measures | Record with it |
|---|---|---|
| Listing views | Views of the Sedo listing page, not visits to the domain itself. | Capture the label, displayed period and observation time. |
| Previous bids | Prior activity on a domain listing, where Sedo displays it. | Do not treat bid count as unique interested buyers, current demand or an accepted offer. |
| Domain traffic | A traffic statistic that may be shown when the owner directs the domain to Sedo nameservers. | Keep the stated period and attribution; it is not a comparable analytics session series unless its definition and measurement window are provided. |
| Seller details | Listing-context information Sedo may disclose, such as seller jurisdiction or account age. | Attribute the field to the listing and do not use it as verified identity or business history. |
Expiring-domain auctions are a separate inventory path
Sedo presents Expiring Domains as auction inventory sourced through its registrar-partner process and provides an RSS link for new names. Keep those entries distinguishable from ordinary owner-listed aftermarket domains. The feed's existence is not a grant to collect, retain or redistribute its contents.

| Surface | Useful distinction | Caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Regular marketplace listing | An owner-listed domain in a chosen Buy Now, Make Offer or auction format. | The owner, listing state and transfer terms remain specific to that listing. |
| Expiring Domains auction | A separate auction surface for domain names approaching expiration and supplied through Sedo's registrar relationships. | An expiration-stage listing does not itself establish domain history, transfer eligibility or uninterrupted registration. |
| RSS link | A discovery mechanism Sedo advertises for expiring-domain additions. | Check the applicable feed and terms before any use; do not assume reuse rights or a stable schema. |
A domain-price comparison needs its sale path and observation state
A fixed asking price, a submitted bid, an accepted offer, a published final sale price and a transferred registration represent different events. Sedo's current U.S. price list varies commissions by sale route and top-level domain, so a gross listing or sale amount is not seller proceeds.

| Value or event | Interpretation | Keep in the evidence record |
|---|---|---|
| Visible Buy Now price | A seller's stated fixed price at the time observed. | Exact domain/TLD, listing URL and type, currency, displayed price label and timestamp. |
| Bid or offer | A buyer proposal that may be conditional on auction reserve, seller acceptance or the selected negotiation state. | Bid/offer state, displayed amount and currency, and any reserve disclosure state. |
| Published final price | A transaction value Sedo may publish subject to the agreement and any allowed publication request. | Publication source, sale route, timestamp and whether the figure is final or a current bid. |
| Transfer completion | Registration transfer governed by the applicable transfer service and registrar conditions. | A separately documented transfer state; never derive it from listing disappearance. |
Check the terms for the applicable Sedo service and customer region
Sedo's U.S. General Terms, versioned 1 March 2023, list competitor analysis and data mining or scraping among prohibited uses in §3.1. Sedo states customers outside the United States and Canada are subject to Sedo GmbH terms. This U.S. clause is not a statement of every regional rule or a legal opinion; check the agreement governing the actual account and service before planning use.

| Boundary | What the reviewed source says | Practical interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| U.S. website terms | Section 3.1 prohibits competitor analysis and data mining or scraping using robots or otherwise. | Do not present public visibility as permission for automated collection or competitor research. |
| Other customer regions | The U.S. General Terms direct customers outside the U.S. and Canada to Sedo GmbH terms. | Review the applicable regional and service-specific terms rather than applying the U.S. clause globally. |
| Domain data model | Sedo distinguishes listings, bids/offers, seller-provided statistics and transfer events. | Use the field reference and access guide to preserve provenance; request source-coverage confirmation where needed. |
