Mercari resale data: listings, condition and sale records
Understand Mercari U.S. listing identity, condition evidence, asking prices, offer states and seller-only sales reports within the source’s published access rules.
A Mercari listing is one seller’s item, not a reusable catalog offer.
Mercari is a U.S. consumer-to-consumer resale marketplace. A listing usually describes one particular item in a seller’s possession, including its wear, included parts and seller-written details. A brand or model can help find comparable items, but it does not make two secondhand listings the same physical item or the same offer.

| Evidence | What it identifies | How to keep the record useful |
|---|---|---|
| Listing URL | The public page for one seller’s listing at a point in time. | Keep the exact URL with the observation time; the page may later change, sell or disappear. |
| Mercari Item ID | Mercari’s Gross Sales Report calls this a unique item identifier; it says IDs begin with “m” or “b” and appear on the order-status page. | Treat it as a Mercari item/order identifier, not a brand model or catalog ID. The documented report is seller-account information; do not infer the ID from a public URL. |
| Seller-entered identity | Title, brand, category and any model, UPC or other identifier the seller supplies. | Keep source wording and attribution. A seller-stated model is a matching clue, not proof of edition, authenticity or completeness. |
| Selected item details | Condition, color, size, included parts and other options shown for that particular listing. | Store only fields actually stated or shown. Do not invent a SKU or variant family when the listing has none. |
| Seller context | The listing’s visible seller reference, when relevant and permitted. | Do not treat a profile label as a verified business identity; avoid personal contact details and unrelated profile data. |
| Market and time | Mercari U.S. context and when the listing was observed. | A U.S. domain or shipping label does not establish a seller’s home location or a current offer after the observation. |
A condition label needs the item’s own evidence beside it.
Mercari defines five general condition labels, but the details that matter vary by category. Keep the exact label separate from seller-written flaws, photos, measurements or tests. The label records what the seller selected under Mercari’s guidance; it is not an independent inspection or guarantee.
Mercari’s general condition labels
| Label | General meaning in Mercari’s guidance | Useful supporting detail |
|---|---|---|
| New | Unused with original tags, sealed packaging or original manufacturer condition; minor handling or storage imperfections may still exist. | Tags/seal, packaging and any disclosed imperfection. |
| Like New | Used very lightly or not at all, without noticeable damage or wear; original packaging may be missing. | What is included, visible wear and package status. |
| Good | Gently used, with possible minor flaws, while still functional and suitable for use. | Specific scuffs, fading, pilling, scratches or other disclosed wear. |
| Fair | Well used, with multiple visible signs of wear or defects, but generally still functional. | Describe each defect and whether it affects use. |
| Poor | Heavily worn or damaged; some items may be suitable only for parts or repair and sold as-is. | Damage, test results and exact parts or repair context. |
Category changes what a buyer should compare
| Category example | Source-specific evidence to preserve | Why the generic label is not enough |
|---|---|---|
| Clothing and footwear | Brand size, measurements when supplied, color, flaws and clear photos. | Mercari notes that fit varies by brand; a size label alone does not establish fit. |
| Electronics | Model, included accessories, tested functions and any seller-reported battery condition. | A cosmetic grade does not describe battery health, testing or missing components. |
| Collectibles | Edition or set details the seller states, packaging condition and visible wear. | A collector may care about box or display condition that is different from the item’s function. |
Asking price, sold comparisons and seller proceeds are different measures.
Mercari recommends that sellers compare similar sold items when choosing a listing price. That can guide a like-for-like comparison, but it is not a complete public transaction history. A listing ask, an accepted offer, the final item price in a seller’s report, and the seller’s net proceeds answer different questions and should remain separate fields.

| Price evidence | What it represents | Comparison rule |
|---|---|---|
| Current listing ask | The seller’s stated price when the public listing was observed. | Keep it as an asking price with listing URL and timestamp; it is not proof of a completed sale. |
| Similar sold listings | Examples Mercari recommends sellers review when pricing an item. | Match condition, model, size, accessories and timing. Visible comparisons are a sample, not a complete market-wide sales feed. |
| Accepted offer | A negotiated amount after a seller accepts an offer or counteroffer. | Retain the original ask, offer event and accepted amount separately when those records are legitimately available. |
| Gross Sales Report item price | The final selling price paid to a seller in that seller’s own account report. | Mercari documents this as account-level transaction information, not a public record of all marketplace sales. |
| Seller proceeds and costs | The report separates item price from buyer/seller shipping, selling and processing fees, shipping adjustments, taxes and net proceeds. | Do not label seller net proceeds as the item price or buyer checkout total. Fee fields and treatment can vary by period. |
Offers, orders and bundles have their own state and price grain.
A Mercari listing can move from an observed asking price into negotiation and then an order record. Store those as dated events instead of overwriting the listing price with a later value. A bundle combines multiple listings from one seller, so the order-level total and shipping do not automatically reveal a separate sale price for every included item.

| Event or record | Mercari context | How to represent it |
|---|---|---|
| Listing observation | A page may show an item and its current ask; that observation does not prove the item will remain available. | Record the visible status wording and time as source evidence, not a guarantee of inventory. |
| Offer or counteroffer | A seller may accept, decline or counter. Mercari says acceptance charges the buyer the new price. | Keep each amount, action and timestamp distinct from the original ask. |
| Order status | The Gross Sales Report distinguishes In Progress, Canceled and Completed orders, with sold, canceled and completed dates where applicable. | Preserve the status and its report date; “sold” does not mean completed or paid out. |
| Bundle | Several items from one seller can be purchased together, with a bundle offer and shared shipping context. | Keep the set of listing IDs and the bundle-level amount together; do not divide the total across items without a documented allocation rule. |
Mercari’s crawl directives do not grant permission to collect listing data.
Mercari’s U.S. Terms of Service are effective February 24, 2025 and incorporate the linked Prohibited Conduct policy. That policy prohibits using robots, crawlers, scrapers or other automated means not provided by Mercari to access the service or extract data, and prohibits attempting to collect another user’s personal information without consent. Check the current terms and policy before planning any use; this page is an informational field guide, not collection permission or legal advice.

| Boundary | What the published source says | Practical reading |
|---|---|---|
| Terms and Prohibited Conduct | Mercari’s linked policy names unauthorized automated access/extraction and consentless collection of personal information as prohibited conduct. | A public listing URL does not override those published rules. Do not use this page as a scraping recipe. |
| robots.txt | On 2026-10-03, Mercari’s robots file listed the U.S. sitemap, allowed broad crawl paths for Googlebot and `*`, and disallowed account and transaction paths including `/mypage/` and `/transaction/`. | Robots is a crawler directive. It is separate from contractual terms, rights in user content and permission to collect or reuse data. |
| Listing text and photos | Mercari’s Terms treat listing descriptions, photos and other posted material as user content; the Privacy Policy says public sale listings can be visible to third parties. | Visibility is not a blanket reuse license. Avoid copying photos or descriptions and check applicable rights and terms. |
| Seller account records | The Gross Sales Report is described for the logged-in seller’s own transaction activity. | Do not present account-only records or seller personal information as public marketplace data. |
Use source-specific comparisons and field definitions for the next step.
Mercari’s resale listings call for one-item identity, condition evidence and a time-stamped transaction state. The related references below help compare marketplace models and define a responsible data record without implying a Mercari connector or permission to extract its content.
