Tesco grocery data: unit prices, Clubcard and picking changes
Tesco grocery records change meaning across a shopping journey. Pack quantity and unit price, public Clubcard offers, account-personalised prices and the amount charged after picking are separate facts. Tesco's current site terms require prior written consent for automated data collection, so this page is a field guide for work with appropriate authorization, not permission to collect or reuse Tesco content.
A grocery offer has a timeline
Product page → offer → basket → pick- 01 · identifyProduct and pack
Save the source URL, displayed item code, exact pack size and unit basis.
- 02 · comparePrice and promotion
Keep standard price, Clubcard offer, unit price and offer window distinct.
- 03 · qualifyMarket and account
Record UK storefront and public offer; keep personal Clubcard prices private.
- 04 · reconcilePick and delivery
Track actual weight, substitutions and final charged values only from an authorized order record.
Tesco's grocery product example illustrates pack size, unit-price and offer labels. Values on product pages and offer dates change; this link demonstrates the record shape, not a live price claim.
Build the Tesco product record around the pack, not just its name
A grocery title does not uniquely describe what is being priced. Tesco product pages can show a product URL, name, pack quantity, image, price and unit-price label. Preserve the exact source label and page context; an identifier in a URL is not automatically a barcode or GTIN.

| Record field | Preserve from the source | Comparison rule |
|---|---|---|
| Product key | Tesco product URL and any item code the page explicitly labels | Keep the identifier exactly as shown. Do not relabel a URL number as a GTIN, UPC or EAN without an explicit source label. |
| Product identity | Displayed name, brand and product type | Use the product page as the evidence link; similar names do not establish the same formulation or offer. |
| Pack definition | Weight, volume, count, multipack contents or variable-weight wording | Keep count and net quantity separate; a changed pack is a different comparison basis. |
| Unit-price basis | Displayed amount and denominator, such as per kg, per litre or per item | Retain the exact denominator and pack quantity. Never compare unit rates with different units as if they were equivalent. |
| Food attributes | Ingredients, allergens, nutrition and dietary labels when displayed | Attach source URL and observation date. Tesco says foods can be reformulated and manufacturer data may be inaccurate or incomplete. |
| Observation context | UK storefront, selected product page and timestamp | A captured page describes that moment and context; it does not establish future price or store availability. |
Keep pack price and unit price as separate measures
A displayed pack amount answers how much one pack costs; a unit rate answers how that pack compares by quantity. Tesco's product example exposes pack size and unit-price labels together. For weighted products, the eventual picked quantity can change the bill, so a unit rate is not a final order total.

| Price field | What it describes | What to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Pack price | The amount shown for a named package or selected product | Currency, pack size, offer label, UK page URL and observation time. |
| Unit price | A normalized amount per stated weight, volume or count unit | Numeric value plus its exact unit denominator; preserve Tesco's displayed rounding. |
| Multi-buy or offer | A conditional price that depends on quantity, dates or eligibility | Offer terms, qualifying quantity and validity window. Do not divide an offer by pack count unless its terms support that calculation. |
| Variable-weight item | An estimate for loose produce or a pre-packed weighed item | Expected or listed amount separately from the final picked weight and charge. |
| Delivery or basket charge | An order-level charge rather than a product price | Keep fees and minimum-basket conditions outside the unit-price field. |
Separate public Clubcard Prices from personal Clubcard offers
Tesco describes Clubcard Prices as public product offers and Your Clubcard Prices as separate, weekly offers for selected eligible members. Its current help says personalized prices are based on previous purchase history, last seven days, and must be unlocked for online home shopping. Keep the public offer and any authorized member offer in separate records; a public product page does not reveal an individual's offer.

| Offer type | What it means | Record handling |
|---|---|---|
| Standard page price | The displayed amount before an eligible offer is applied | Keep it as its own price observation with the same pack and date context. |
| Public Clubcard Price | A product offer presented to Clubcard customers, sometimes with an offer period | Capture the displayed eligibility wording and validity dates; do not assume every shopper has activated it. |
| Your Clubcard Prices | Tesco describes these selected member offers as based on previous purchase history; its current help says they are weekly, last seven days and must be unlocked for online home shopping. | Do not infer or expose an individual offer from a public page; retain authorized offer validity and delivery/collection-day context separately. |
| Clubcard Plus promotion | Tesco's grocery terms say these promotions are in-store only and exclude online groceries, Whoosh, F&F and Marketplace | Do not apply an in-store member discount to an online offer record. |
| Offer timing | Tesco help says new personalized offers arrive weekly on Wednesday, last seven days, and must be valid on the online delivery or collection date. | Store start/end time, qualifying quantity and channel where those terms are shown. |
Treat the grocery order total as a pick-time outcome
Tesco calls online basket totals guide prices. Its terms say the actual product price is the store price at the time the order is picked, and its help page explains that item prices, promotions and weighed quantities can change before collection or delivery.

| Stage or event | Useful observation | Do not infer |
|---|---|---|
| Product page | Listed pack amount, offer and unit price at capture time | That the amount will still apply on the order's pick date. |
| Order context | Delivery or Click+Collect channel, postcode/store context and selected slot when authorized records provide them | That a postcode or slot provides exact inventory for every product. |
| Picking | Picked quantity or weight, actual item price and any substitution recorded in an authorized order event | That a page's guide price is the final amount charged. |
| Substitution | Original item, whether substitutions were allowed, delivered substitute and any source-reported price/quantity | That a substitute is identical in brand, pack, price, ingredients or dietary suitability. |
| Availability | The displayed status and the selected location/time, when available | An exact stock count or a guarantee that the item will be supplied. |
Keep Tesco Marketplace offers separate from Tesco-sold groceries
Tesco's terms divide Tesco-sold products from Marketplace Partner products. Marketplace pages identify the seller making the sale and dispatch; the partner sets the product price, and its terms apply alongside Tesco's Marketplace terms. The shared Tesco domain does not make these offers one first-party catalog.
Scroll to compare →
| Offer dimension | Tesco Marketplace model | Comparison rule |
|---|---|---|
| Seller | The product page identifies the selling and dispatching seller | Store the seller name with the offer, rather than only with the general Tesco product title. |
| Price | The Marketplace seller sets the product price; delivery charges are separate | Compare seller, item condition/details, delivery and offer terms together. |
| Sale terms | Marketplace terms and the specific seller's terms both apply | Link the seller terms where provided; do not apply Tesco grocery-picking rules to the partner order. |
| Channel and membership | Tesco lists Marketplace as excluded from Your Clubcard Prices and Clubcard Plus promotions | Do not join an account-specific grocery offer to a Marketplace listing by product name alone. |
Keep nutrition and dietary labels as dated source claims
Tesco offers a food-preference search function and says registered nutritionists review product data for that purpose. Its terms also warn that products are frequently reformulated, ingredients may change and manufacturer data may be incorrect or incomplete. Retain the source classification, pack and date; do not turn a catalog label into an independent suitability or safety claim.

| Field | Safe interpretation | Quality check |
|---|---|---|
| Ingredients and allergens | Source-listed information for the observed product and pack | Retain the evidence URL and date; review the current package and manufacturer information for decisions affecting safety. |
| Nutrition values | Values stated by Tesco or the manufacturer for the listed serving or quantity | Preserve serving basis and units; do not silently convert or combine different bases. |
| Dietary or lifestyle label | A Tesco search classification for the source's stated criteria | Do not turn the label into an independent medical suitability claim. |
| Product reformulation | A possible change to recipe, package or manufacturer data over time | Version the observation and recheck consequential fields before reuse. |
Tesco requires prior written consent for automated collection
Tesco's General Terms were reviewed October 7, 2026; the page did not show a last-updated date in this review. Section 7 allows screen display and limited personal, non-commercial use while permitted, requires written permission for other commercial use, and requires prior written consent for automated access, extraction or collection for any purpose, including AI/ML training. Public access to a page or a robots directive is not permission to crawl, copy or train on its content.
Scroll to compare →
| Boundary | Published Tesco rule | Practical consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Automated access | Section 7 prohibits automated systems, including bots, crawlers, scrapers and AI tools, from accessing, extracting or collecting site data for any purpose without prior written consent. | Do not send Tesco URLs to an automated collection workflow unless the applicable written authorization covers it. |
| AI training | The automated-access rule explicitly includes using site content to train machine-learning or AI models. | Do not repurpose public product copy, images or reviews for model training without the required consent. |
| Commercial reuse | Section 7 says other commercial use of Site material or content requires written permission from Tesco. | Confirm the exact dataset, fields, purpose, retention and distribution rights before reuse. |
| Page access versus permission | The reviewed General Terms page had no visible update date; the current robots file lists selected directives and sitemaps but does not grant consent. | Treat this guide as a data-modeling reference, not authorization or evidence of a working Tesco connector. |

Tesco unit prices, Clubcard offers and substitutions
What should a Tesco grocery product record include?
Keep the Tesco product URL and any product code the page actually displays, plus the exact product name, brand, pack weight or volume, item count, unit-price basis and the time and UK storefront observed. Add ingredients, nutrition or dietary labels only when the page supplies them, and retain the source wording and date because Tesco says food products are frequently reformulated and manufacturer data may be incorrect or incomplete.
Why should I store Tesco's unit price as well as the pack price?
A shelf amount compares one pack, while a unit price such as price per kilogram, litre or item compares quantities. Keep the pack quantity and unit denominator with each value; a multipack or changed pack size can make two displayed pack amounts misleading to compare directly.
Are Clubcard Prices the same as Your Clubcard Prices?
No. A public Clubcard Price is a product offer shown to Clubcard customers. Tesco describes Your Clubcard Prices as selected member offers based on previous purchase history; its current help says new offers arrive weekly, last seven days and must be unlocked for online home shopping. The offer must still be valid on the delivery or collection day. Keep an account-specific price separate from public page data and do not infer it from a standard Clubcard offer.
Is the Tesco online grocery price the amount a customer will pay?
Not always. Tesco calls online order totals guide prices and says the final price can change by the time an order is picked. Loose produce and pre-packed weighed items can vary with the picked weight, and an offer may change before delivery or collection. Preserve the observation time and distinguish a page price from a picked-order amount.
How should Tesco substitutions be represented?
Keep the ordered item and any delivered substitute as separate records linked by the order event. Record the substitution choice, substitute identity, picked quantity and charged amount only when those values are supplied by an authorized order record. Tesco says it may offer a suitable substitute for an unavailable grocery item unless the customer has opted out; a product page does not reveal the eventual substitution.
Does Tesco Marketplace use the same seller and price model as Tesco groceries?
No. Tesco's terms separate products sold by Tesco from Marketplace partner products. A Marketplace product page identifies the selling and dispatching seller; the partner sets its price and its own sale terms also apply. Store seller identity and delivery context instead of merging the offer into a Tesco grocery record by title alone.
Can Tesco grocery pages be scraped?
Tesco's current General Terms prohibit automated systems, including bots, crawlers, scrapers and AI tools, from accessing, extracting or collecting site data without Tesco's prior written consent. They also restrict commercial use of site content without written permission. Do not treat a public product page or this field guide as authorization to collect or reuse Tesco content.
Can a Tesco product page confirm picked quantity, final charge or exact store stock?
No. Tesco calls online grocery totals guide prices: the final amount is based on the order's delivery or collection day, and loose or pre-packed weighed items can vary with the picked quantity. Tesco may offer a substitute for an unavailable grocery item unless the customer opted out. A product page cannot establish the later picked weight, final charge, substitute or exact local stock count.
