TCGplayer card data: price metrics, condition and printing

Match cards by game, set, printing, language, foil and condition. Compare TCGplayer sale and listing metrics, photo listings and access terms.

Match the catalog product before comparing card prices

A card name or artwork alone may match more than one catalog entry. TCGplayer's App FAQ documents filters for printing, language and condition; its Scan & Identify workflow also lets sellers confirm or correct catalog matches. Keep the selected product context with every metric.

Do not merge sales benchmarks, active asks and shipping-inclusive prices

TCGplayer's product-page price guide and seller pricing tools use different labels and scopes. Keep the source label and selected product filters, and distinguish a displayed benchmark from the amount of a specific seller offer.

Do not merge sales benchmarks, active asks and shipping-inclusive prices
TCGplayer measureSource definitionInterpretation
Market PriceCompiled from recent completed TCGplayer sales and updated as transactions complete.A source-defined recent-sales benchmark, not a guaranteed value for one physical copy.
Listed MedianMedian of listed prices for the selected product and page filters. An active ask distribution; thin supply can differ from recent sale prices.
Most Recent SaleMost recently sold product for the filters applied to the product page. One transaction; do not treat its capture time as the sale date unless shown.
TCG Lowest Listing / TCG Last Sold ListingSeller pricing guidance defines these using combined Price + Shipping for the lowest live listing or last completed sale.Seller-tool labels are not interchangeable with product-page Market Price or Most Recent Sale.
Market Price VolatilityTCGplayer calculates volatility from sales volume and price spread over 30 days, counting orders rather than individual copies.Indeterminate volatility means the source reports insufficient sales volume for a score.

Use TCGplayer's condition scale as a seller label, not a copy inspection

TCGplayer's marketplace grades are Near Mint, Lightly Played, Moderately Played, Heavily Played and Damaged; it does not sell cards as Mint or Gem Mint. Its standards consider the type and severity of imperfections plus structure, playability and authentication. The listing grade is not an independent examination of the exact card.

NM through DamagedSeller listing uses one of the published marketplace categories.Original condition label, selected printing and source listing.
FoilFoils use the same broad criteria as non-foil cards; curling or foil-specific surface issues can affect the observed condition.Foil finish and any source-described defect, without recoding the seller label.
Manufacturing defects or alterationsTCGplayer says certain defects such as significant miscuts/crimps and alterations such as signatures or stamps are treated as Damaged; photo listings may suit these copies.Separate standard catalog data from exact-copy description and image.
LanguageLanguage is not itself a condition grade and can affect which listing format is used; TCGplayer identifies exceptions for certain non-English products.Use the full displayed language and product/listing type rather than assuming every language uses the same format.

Separate Listings with Photos from standard catalog copies

A standard listing is tied to a catalog product; a Listing with Photos can show a particular copy, a defect or alteration, or a multi-card lot. TCGplayer describes standard-listing price data as a benchmark that may not reflect unique features of the pictured item.

Separate Listings with Photos from standard catalog copies
Photo-listing detailWhy it changes the comparisonRecord rule
Specific copyPhotos and seller description can disclose wear, signature, printing error or another feature absent from a catalog record.Retain exact-listing evidence separately from catalog product metrics, subject to permission.
Lot and quantityListings with Photos can offer multiple items; the seller guide calls for the number of products and included contents to be stated.Do not infer lot size from Current Quantity or a standard card page.
Language and conditionPhoto-listing instructions call for full language names and condition details, plus damage/modification notes where relevant.Preserve seller wording; do not normalize away a distinctive item detail.
Seller reportsTCGplayer's Price Differential Report excludes photo listings from its Lowest Listing, Last Sold Listing and Market Price comparison.Apply that exclusion only to the documented seller report; do not imply every page/API has the same field contract.

Seller counts and listed quantity describe different supply signals

TCGplayer defines Current Sellers as individual sellers listing the selected product. Current Quantity is a page metric, and TCGplayer notes that it does not include Listings with Photos that may contain multiple copies. Neither is a complete count of all physical copies or future availability.

Keep seller scan and inventory records separate from public marketplace data

TCGplayer's Scan & Identify tool is a seller workflow: users import card images, review catalog-match confidence, adjust product attributes and push items to staged or live inventory. Its documentation says imported scan images expire 60 days after import. These account-side records do not define a public listing feed or API response.

Review express permission and API approval before automated use

TCGplayer's Terms of Service, updated 27 September 2023, prohibit crawling, scraping or spidering its websites without express permission. Its API Terms, updated 8 June 2022, require an application and discretionary written approval for a stated purpose and scope; they restrict competitive use, combining TCGplayer prices with other prices, and commercial redistribution. Review the actual terms and permission for the proposed use before collecting or reusing data.
