Target product data: prices, stores, and Target Plus
Interpret Target TCIN, UPC and DPCI; compare online and store price labels, local availability, fulfillment, Target Plus sellers, and current site terms.
Match the exact Target item before comparing offers
Target product pages can show several identifiers and item attributes. Preserve the field labels as Target displays them, then check the product details used by Target's own price-match policy. A title or one identifier alone may not prove two offers are for an identical item.

| Item field | What to retain | Matching decision |
|---|---|---|
| TCIN | The Target item identifier under its displayed label | Keep it as TCIN; do not merge it with UPC or DPCI. |
| UPC | The trade-item identifier when the page shows one | Check model and package details before treating products as equivalent. |
| DPCI | Target's displayed Item Number (DPCI) | Preserve the full label and value as a separate field. |
| Item attributes | Brand, size, weight, color, quantity, and model number when present | Target lists these details in its identical-item matching criteria; compare the same configuration. |
| Page identity | Target product URL and observation date | Use the URL as page context, not as a substitute for the separately labeled identifiers. |
Target price labels describe different price concepts
Target's labels identify different bases for a displayed amount. Keep the label, offer qualification, package basis, and observation time with the price. Do not turn a reference price or personalized offer into a general transaction history.

| Target label | Meaning in Target Help | How to preserve it |
|---|---|---|
| When purchased online | Price for shipping, delivery, pickup, or Drive Up; it may differ from local-store price | Keep the label and fulfillment method with the amount. |
| Was | 90-day median price offered on Target.com and the Target app, excluding sales, clearance, and other limited-time promotions | Treat it as Target's reference label, not completed-sale history. |
| New Lower Price | Updated price after a reduction from the previous retail price | Keep the label with the current display; it does not provide a full promotion history. |
| See price in cart | Used when an item is marked below a manufacturer's minimum advertised price | Do not infer or record an unshown amount from the product page. |
| MSRP | Suggested retail price supplied by the manufacturer, supplier, or seller | Do not treat MSRP as proof of an actual or prevailing market price. |
| Value Bundle | A group of items sold together, sometimes for less than separate purchases | Keep the bundle quantity and total-price basis attached. |
| Target Circle or promotion | Offer terms may depend on location or member qualification; some savings are personalized | Keep the visible qualification separate from the base price and exclude account or shopping-history data. |
Location and fulfillment define an availability observation
Target availability follows the selected My store, and Target lets shoppers check other stores by ZIP code or city and state. The page's store status can change quickly; Target says cart addition does not guarantee an item remains available at checkout.

| Context field | What Target says | Comparison rule |
|---|---|---|
| Selected store | The product page displays inventory for the selected My store | Name the store whose status was observed; another store is a separate observation. |
| Search location | Other stores can be found using ZIP code or city and state | Keep the searched area separate from the specific store result. |
| Fulfillment method | Shipping, delivery, pickup, and Drive Up use the online price view; local-store purchases can differ | Record the observed method with price and availability; do not assume every item supports each option. |
| Availability status | Quantities are limited and availability changes quickly | Treat a status as time-bound page evidence, not an exact inventory count. |
| Cart or checkout | An item may become unavailable before checkout is complete | Do not present a page or cart state as a purchase guarantee. |
Keep Target-sold and Target Plus offers distinct
Target Plus partner identity appears as “sold and shipped by” on the product description page. Keep that seller with the offer. Target's price-match rules use different comparison directions for Target and Target Plus purchases, and current exclusions still apply.

| Offer detail | What to retain | Policy-aware comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Seller | Target or the partner named by the “sold and shipped by” label | Do not collapse a partner offer into a Target-sold offer because the item title matches. |
| Target purchase | Identical item and current lower Target.com or qualifying Target-store price | Target's policy does not allow a Target item to match a Target Plus item. |
| Target Plus purchase | Partner identity and the identical product configuration | A lower price from the same Target Plus partner may qualify, subject to the current policy and exclusions. |
| Offer basis | Displayed amount, price label, promotion terms, fulfillment, and capture time | Seller, promotion, item attributes, or location changes can alter the comparison basis. |
Read Target's robots file and terms together
Target's current terms limit Site and Content use to personal, noncommercial purposes and prohibit commercial use of product listings, prices, or images, data-extraction or scraping tools, and systematic downloading or storage. Its robots file gives separate crawler directives; neither a sitemap entry nor an unlisted path grants collection or reuse rights.

| Source | Current evidence reviewed | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Terms and Conditions | The posted license is noncommercial; prohibited uses include commercial content use, scraping/data-gathering tools, and systematic content storage | Attribute the posted text and recheck it; do not present this guide as legal advice or authorization. |
| Agentic Commerce terms | The terms separately cover user-authorized agents acting on Target accounts and a current approved-agent list | That account-interaction provision is not a blanket data-extraction or commercial-use license. |
| robots.txt | The wildcard group disallows numerous search/navigation, account, and checkout paths and declares several sitemap indexes, including a product-detail-page index | Robots rules are crawler directions, not permission under the terms; recheck before publication. |
| Access decision | The site terms, robots directives, and any separate authorization are different evidence | Do not infer consent from a public URL, sitemap, or missing robots rule. |
Keep a Target comparison record interpretable
These hypothetical comparisons show why the source label and shopping context belong with each observation. Use Target Site content only where the applicable terms and authorization allow it; leave private account data and values that were not actually displayed out of the record.

| Comparison example | Fields to keep together | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Online versus local-store price | Item identifiers and attributes; displayed amount; “When purchased online” label or store; fulfillment method; time | These are separate contextual observations, even for the same item. |
| “Was” and current display | Current displayed amount; Was reference amount and label; capture time | The reference value is not a history of completed transactions. |
| Target versus Target Plus | Exact item attributes; seller label; price and promotion; fulfillment context | Preserve separate offers and apply the policy's matching direction. |
| Value Bundle | Bundle contents or quantity; total amount; displayed price basis | Do not compare the bundle total to a single-item price without its package basis. |
| Source and permission context | Product URL; observation time; source label; authorization basis for the intended use | Exclude account identifiers, shopping history, copied reviews or images, and inferred stock counts. |
