REI data extraction: product, option and used gear fields
Map REI product IDs, option-level offers, outdoor gear specs, Outlet and Re/Supply states, member reward exclusions, and posted access terms.
REI's new catalog, Outlet and Re/Supply describe distinct offers
REI groups offers with different condition and pricing contexts: the main catalog and Outlet describe new merchandise, while Re/Supply covers returned or traded-in gear and its terms also mention discontinued goods. A shared model label does not make these channels the same offer.

| REI channel | What the source describes | How the offer differs |
|---|---|---|
| Main catalog | A new product page with a model and selected configuration. | The item and its selected option have a current page price and state. |
| REI Outlet | New closeout merchandise, including end-of-season and previous-year models. | Closeout status and markdown context are separate from the main catalog offer. |
| Re/Supply | Used gear returned or traded in; REI also describes discontinued items in its Re/Supply terms. | A used unit has its own condition label, price and current listing state. |
| Shared model family | A model may appear across current, closeout or used listings. | A shared model relates the offers; it does not make their condition, price or channel identical. |
REI product identity, option and offer are different record levels
A product family can span colors, sizes and configurations. Some REI pages expose an SKU for the selected option; a family label, selected configuration and offer state describe different levels of the product record.

| Record layer | Fields REI may display | Interpretation boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Product identity | Product name, brand, category and displayed REI item, model or style number. | REI's item label and a manufacturer's model/style label can identify different levels. |
| Selected option | SKU when exposed, color, size, width, capacity or another displayed configuration. | Price and availability can vary by selected option rather than product family. |
| Category context | Breadcrumb, named activity/use and source technical-field labels. | A category label is source context, not universal product suitability. |
| Page state | Current/new or discontinued wording and option-level page status. | A discontinued or archived page state should not be merged into a newer generation. |
Outdoor categories expose different specification fields
REI publishes different technical fields for different products. A capacity or frame field belongs to a pack, while a temperature rating belongs to a sleeping bag. Source labels and units define each observation; a field absent from a page remains unknown.

| Example category | Fields REI lists when present | Comparison limit |
|---|---|---|
| Packs and bags | Gear capacity, weight, selected size/fit, laptop or reservoir compatibility and included raincover. | Units and option context distinguish similarly named fields across categories. |
| Sleeping bags | Temperature rating and test labels, fill/insulation, weight, packed volume, size and zipper location. | Temperature scale and test type are source context; REI notes that comfort depends on use conditions. |
| Sleeping pads and shelters | R-value, thickness, dimensions, capacity, packed dimensions and season/use labels. | Some measurements depend on the selected size or configuration. |
| Footwear and apparel | Selected size/color, width or fit notes, material, weight, insulation or waterproof labels. | A named product claim remains an REI statement, not an independently tested result. |
Price, reward and fulfillment are separate dated signals
REI says online prices can change, may differ from store prices and remain subject to availability. A selected option, location or delivery context can explain a fulfillment message; a page status is not a reservation or later checkout promise.
Scroll to compare →
| Signal | Source context | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Item price and markdown | Displayed price or reference price for the selected option and channel at a particular time. | A past or crossed-out price is not necessarily the current checkout price. |
| Fulfillment context | Selected store or destination, pickup/shipping choice and displayed availability message. | Availability elsewhere, exact on-hand quantity or guaranteed delivery date. |
| Option status | REI's wording for a selected size, color or configuration, including unavailable or backordered states. | The state of another option in the same product family. |
| Reward estimate | An estimated member reward with its eligibility context. | That the estimate is already deducted from the price or guaranteed to every member. |
Re/Supply listings describe individual used units
A Re/Supply listing may share a model with a new product but has its own condition and offer state. REI's FAQ lists Excellent, Lightly Worn, Moderately Worn and Well Worn grades and says REI evaluates condition at its discretion. A grade, note or image disclaimer belongs to the particular used listing.

| Used listing detail | What REI states | Interpretation limit |
|---|---|---|
| Unit and option | A distinct used listing with its own product/model, color and size when shown. | Different listings are separate offers even when the model is shared. |
| Condition | Excellent, Lightly Worn, Moderately Worn or Well Worn; a listing may add item-specific wear notes. | The REI label does not quantify remaining life or product performance. |
| Images | Some Re/Supply pages state that the image is the original product, not the actual used item. | A stock image does not establish a used unit's cosmetic condition. |
| Trade-in eligibility | REI determines eligible catalog items and assesses condition; eligibility and trade-in value may change and are not guaranteed. | Acceptance or credit is not derivable from a model match or listed condition. |
| Price and status | A used unit's listed price and status can change separately from a new offer. | A sold or changed listing is not evidence that it remains available. |
Co-op Member Reward is distinct from item price
REI describes the Co-op Member Reward as an annual member benefit and says 10% is typical but not guaranteed. REI excludes Outlet, sale, clearance, discounted and Re/Supply used purchases, among other categories. Item price, markdown, reward estimate and membership eligibility are separate signals.
Scroll to compare →
| Signal | REI's stated context | What not to infer |
|---|---|---|
| Displayed item price | The price on a selected product and channel at the observation time. | A later member reward is already deducted from the amount. |
| Member reward estimate | An estimate tied to eligible purchases and REI's membership rules; 10% is typical, not guaranteed. | A guaranteed 10% cash return, instant discount or benefit on every product. |
| Outlet, sale or clearance | REI's current terms list these offers among Co-op Member Reward exclusions. | That a markdown and estimated member reward can both be counted as savings. |
| Re/Supply used offer | Used gear is a separate offer and is excluded from the Co-op Member Reward. | A used item earns the same reward as eligible full-price catalog gear. |
| Account eligibility | Membership, annual eligible spend, exclusions and current program terms govern the benefit. | A public item page reveals an individual member's account, reward balance or final eligibility. |
REI's Terms address content use and automated access
The REI Terms of Use page displays a last revision date of December 11, 2023. Section 3, Ownership of Site Content, describes a personal, noncommercial license and excludes collecting product listings, pictures or descriptions and using data-mining or similar extraction methods. Section 12, User Conduct, names robots, spiders, crawlers, scrapers and automated interfaces not provided by REI. This is an attributed source summary, not a legal conclusion.

|---|---|---|
| Automated access | Section 12 names robots, spiders, crawlers, scrapers and automated interfaces not provided by REI as prohibited means to access the Sites or extract data. | A public page does not by itself establish permission for another access method. |
| Site content | Section 3 excludes commercial use, collection of product listings/pictures/descriptions, and data-mining or similar extraction methods from the personal, noncommercial license. | The page reports the linked terms' wording and does not interpret legal effect. |
| Revision date | The currently linked Terms page displays December 11, 2023 as its last revision; REI says the terms can change. | The date is part of the evidence and does not describe a recent policy update. |
