Hobbii product pages: yarn, kits and patterns explained
Learn how Hobbii listings distinguish yarn weight and gauge, Friends color numbers, dye lots, kit contents and digital patterns.
Treat yarn, packs, kits, and patterns as different records.
Hobbii sells yarn, accessories, project kits, and downloadable patterns. A product name alone does not tell you whether a listing represents one skein, a set of skeins, a bundle, or a digital design. Keep each product type and its component items distinct.

| Listing type | Keep distinct | What the fields describe |
|---|---|---|
| Yarn skein | Yarn family, selectable color, and skein quantity | Fiber, weight and length, yarn weight, tool guidance, gauges, care and any stated certification. |
| Color pack | Pack identity, included colors and count per color | A multi-skein offer; do not confuse pack totals with per-skein weight or length. |
| Project kit | Kit bundle and each included yarn, tool or pattern item | The listing may identify components, quantities and tools that are not included. |
| Pattern | Design, pattern number and digital/free/paid status | Craft type, designer, difficulty, size, measurements and materials guidance; it is not a physical yarn item. |
Compare yarn by its actual weight, length, and gauge.
Hobbii's 8/4, 8/6, and 8/8 labels describe how many threads are spun together, while product pages give the practical specifications for a particular yarn. Compare the actual grams and meters and keep knitting gauge separate from crochet gauge.

| Field | Example from Hobbii | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Cotton category | Hobbii describes 8/4 as four threads, 8/6 as six, and 8/8 as eight. | The label is a construction/size family, not a measurement of skein length or a universal gauge. |
| Weight and length | Rainbow Cotton 8/4: 50 g and 160 m; Rainbow Cotton 8/6: 50 g and 105 m. | The same skein mass can contain different lengths; retain both values and the named yarn. |
| Knitting and crochet gauge | Daily Stitch Cotton: knitting 27 sts × 38 rows; crochet 19 sts × 24 rows per 10 × 10 cm. | These are different fabric tests. Do not combine the stitch counts or substitute one for the other. |
| Tools and care | Daily Stitch Cotton lists 3 mm knitting needles, a 4 mm crochet hook, and machine wash at 40°C; no tumble dry. | Keep recommended tools and care notes attached to the individual product, not inferred for every Hobbii cotton yarn. |
| Fiber and certification | Daily Stitch Cotton is listed as 100% cotton and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified, certificate no. 2476-419. | Treat certification and fiber content as product-level facts; do not generalize one yarn's certificate to the whole catalog. |
Use Hobbii's published color links without assuming dye-lot identity.
The Friends range has an explicit color-number relationship across its yarns, but Hobbii cautions that fibers can produce slight shade differences. A number is useful for following a published color crosswalk; it is not proof that different fibers or dye batches look identical.

| Color detail | Hobbii's published guidance | Comparison boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Friends family number | The same color number is intended to correspond across different Friends yarns. | Hobbii notes that shade can vary slightly from fiber to fiber. |
| Friends Cotton 8/8 Print | Its product page maps print colors to selected Friends solid numbers; for example, Print 01 lists 22, 24 and 26. | Use only the matches shown for that print color; the page says not every print has a full matched shade range. |
| Dye lot | Hobbii says buyers cannot request a particular lot and it cannot guarantee every skein in one order is from the same batch. | Keep a lot number as a skein/batch observation when available; do not promise same-lot fulfillment or identical appearance. |
Keep patterns and kits separate from physical yarn.
Pattern listings describe a design and its making requirements. Kits connect a pattern with selected yarn and other components. Record those relationships without treating a digital download as a shipped item or assuming a kit includes a tool that its page excludes.

| Page detail | Useful product fields | Hobbii example or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Pattern identity | Pattern number, designer, craft type, difficulty, sizes and finished measurements. | Hobbii's “1 2 3 Crochet - Numbers” listing identifies crochet, beginner difficulty, designer Libère tes mailles, pattern no. 1205-242-7211, and approximate finished dimensions. |
| Materials | Yarn quality, named color, quantity, hook/needle and gauge, with size-specific quantities when listed. | Pattern instructions can describe requirements, but those quantities are guidance tied to the named design and yarn. |
| Digital status | Free or paid pattern and whether the item is a download rather than a physical package. | Hobbii says its site offers downloadable content; its PLUS-pattern help page describes access from an order confirmation or a My Hobbii web profile. |
| Kit bundle | Bundle identity plus the names, colors and quantities of included yarn and accessories. | The Atahualpa Owl kit lists a PDF pattern, named yarns and accessories, and explicitly says a crochet hook is not included. |
Separate changing commerce details from product facts and respect the published terms.
Prices and policies depend on time and market. Hobbii's US Terms say displayed prices are daily rates, exclude local sales taxes, and are valid at order finalization; the return details also distinguish physical yarn and kits from digital products. Its Terms of Service §§11–12 state that users agree not to scrape or data-mine the website/content and reserve rights in site content. This guide does not grant or imply collection or republication permission and is not a legal determination.

| Topic | Source-specific detail | How to represent it carefully |
|---|---|---|
| Price and tax | US Terms §6 describes daily prices, USD display and local sales tax assessed separately at checkout. | Do not treat a page price as fixed, final checkout total, or a lasting comparison. |
| Physical returns | US Terms §10 and the North America return FAQ describe a three-month window with unused/original-condition requirements; yarn labels, complete yarn packs and sealed accessories/kits have different conditions. | Attribute the policy to the US/North America storefront and the checked date; Hobbii lists separate instructions for other countries. |
| Digital patterns | Hobbii's terms and return FAQ distinguish downloadable content; the FAQ says digital products cannot be returned or refunded after purchase. | Keep downloads separate from physical goods and do not copy or republish pattern instructions. |
| Automated collection and content reuse | The Hobbii US Terms of Service §§11–12 prohibit scraping/data-mining and reserve rights in the site's content. | This page summarizes product-field meanings only and does not grant permission to collect or reuse site content. |
