ButcherBox data: subscription box choices, meat cuts and sourcing
Understand ButcherBox box sizes, recurring add-ons, meat weights, sourcing claims and the difference between subscription and one-time boxes.
ButcherBox combines recurring meat boxes with separate one-time products.
ButcherBox OpCo, LLC offers meat and seafood products through recurring subscriptions, individual listings, gifts and non-subscription boxes. A subscription is an account-level recurring order; an assortment page describes a separate product. The current Terms set U.S. residency as a customer eligibility condition and say products are not to be directed for export.

| Catalog path | What it represents | Keep separate |
|---|---|---|
| Signature subscription | A recurring box where the member chooses a plan size and product selections. | Plan size, selected cuts, bill date, delivery frequency and actual shipment contents. |
| Add-ons and Member Deals | Extra products attached to an upcoming subscription shipment. | Whether an item renews automatically is determined by its offer type. |
| One-time boxes or individual products | A fixed assortment or standalone item available outside a recurring box. | Do not classify a product page as a recurring plan unless its order terms say so. |
A plan's selected-protein count and maximum weight are different measures.
The current Signature Plan help page describes three box sizes. A “choose 6 proteins” field tells how many selections a member makes, while “up to 21 lb” is a maximum box weight. It is not a guarantee that every selected assortment weighs exactly that amount.

| Signature size | Selections shown in help | Maximum weight shown |
|---|---|---|
| Medium | Choose 6 proteins | Up to 21 lb |
| Large | Choose 9 proteins | Up to 31 lb |
| Extra-Large | Choose 12 proteins | Up to 42 lb |
Recurring add-ons and monthly Member Deals have different renewal rules.
ButcherBox says an add-on renews with each subscription box until the member changes it. Exclusive Member Deals do not renew automatically and change monthly with season and availability. A one-time product box is a third order type, not either of these member extras.

| Order component | Renewal behavior described by ButcherBox | Useful record fields |
|---|---|---|
| Selected plan products | Part of the next recurring box; choices can be changed before the billing cutoff. | Plan, selected items, quantity/weight, scheduled bill date and observation time. |
| Add-on | Renews with each box until removed or changed. | Recurring status, selected quantity and the next shipment it attaches to. |
| Exclusive Member Deal | Does not renew automatically; availability and offers change monthly. | Deal name, date seen and whether it was added to the next shipment. |
| One-time assortment | A separately listed box or product; not automatically a member add-on. | Fixed bundle contents and individual product weights from its own page. |
Pack weight, portion count and cut details belong to each protein.
The current Everyday Essentials listing shows six different product selections with different weight conventions. Its ground-beef component is two 16 oz packs, while the salmon includes a piece count and the pork chops list a per-piece weight. Preserve the units and count on each component instead of storing only the combined box weight.

| Example in the one-time box | Pack size as listed | Additional product fields |
|---|---|---|
| Whole Chicken | About 4.2 lb | Organic/free-range claims; ingredients and nutrition are listed for this product. |
| Sockeye Salmon | 2 lb, 5–7 pieces | Wild-caught; source page names sockeye salmon and gives a product-specific origin. |
| Boneless Pork Chops | 4 × 8 oz chops | Keep piece count and per-piece weight rather than storing only “2 lb.” |
| Ground Beef 85/15 | 2 lb, shown as 2 × 16 oz packs | The 85/15 label is the meat-to-fat ratio, separate from package weight. |
Sourcing claims need the product, species and supply-chain stage attached.
ButcherBox makes product-specific sourcing and certification statements. The current Everyday Essentials page gives the 85/15 ground-beef component a distinct sourcing path: animals are born, raised and harvested in Australia; the meat is cut and packaged in the U.S. It lists chicken sourced from the East Coast region and sockeye from Bristol Bay, Alaska. The sourcing page says its own displayed claims are third-party verified; do not generalize a single-item statement to the full catalog.

| Product example | Source-stated claim or origin | Do not normalize as |
|---|---|---|
| 85/15 ground beef | 100% grass-fed/pasture-raised; cattle born, raised and harvested in Australia; cut and packaged in the U.S. | A single country value that hides the separate processing stages. |
| Organic free-range chicken | The cited Essentials listing says sourced from farms across the U.S. East Coast region. | A claim for every chicken product or every animal in the catalog. |
| Sockeye salmon | The cited listing identifies wild-caught salmon sourced from vessels in Bristol Bay, Alaska. | The beef origin or the chicken's farm-raised certification. |
| Third-party verification | The sourcing page says claims shown there are third-party verified; product pages expose their own claim labels. | A certification attached to a product unless the item-level page/evidence names it. |
Example: keep the Essentials beef component, two-pack weight and ratio distinct.
An editorial example of the Ground Beef 85/15 component in the Everyday Essentials Box, reviewed October 3, 2026. The linked bundle page supplies the component weight and Australia-to-U.S. processing stages; 85/15 describes the meat-to-fat ratio.

}Billing, substitutions and perishable-product issues are order-level matters.
The Terms say a monthly subscription can be canceled before its next Bill Date, and charges for already processed orders remain due. Current cancellation help adds a specific deadline: requests should be made before 11:59 p.m. EST the day before the next Bill Date; an already-billed or processing order is not guaranteed to be canceled. Terms allow availability changes and substitutions. They say perishable products cannot be returned, but support may review an issue and consider replacement, credit or partial/full refund. For damaged products, Terms ask customers to report the issue within seven days with photos; filing a claim does not guarantee a refund.

| Subscription change | Terms §4(B) permits cancellation before the next Bill Date; support help says submit the request before 11:59 p.m. EST the prior day. Already processed charges remain due, and help says an already-billed or processing order may not be canceled. | Bill date, next box and member account state are order-specific, not public catalog attributes. |
| Substitution or availability change | Terms say products are subject to availability and may be substituted or discontinued; a substitution can include specific ingredients, a product or an entire order. | Retain what was listed and what was actually shipped as separate observations. |
| Perishable product issue | Terms §4(I) says perishable products cannot be returned; dissatisfied customers can contact support for order review and possible replacement, credit or partial/full refund. §4(K) requests damage reports within seven days with photos; a claim does not guarantee a refund. | Do not promise a refund, replacement or credit before the company reviews that order. |
