Bookshop.org catalog data: formats, ISBNs & lists

Understand Bookshop.org records by title, edition and format, with ISBN, curated-list and bookstore attribution context. Review the site's posted access terms.

Bookshop.org connects new-book listings with bookstore curation

Bookshop.org describes its catalog as new books distributed through Ingram; it says it does not purchase, print, publish or warehouse books. A bookstore storefront can add curation and referral context without becoming the seller or inventory location for a product page. The affiliate program also includes non-bookstore participants, so preserve the role shown on the page.

Match the edition and format before comparing book records

A single title page may offer paperback, hardcover and ebook choices. Product details may label a selected format and an EAN/UPC, while another page may show different ISBNs for hardback and paperback editions. Keep the source's label intact and attach each identifier to the edition and format it names; a title string is not a reliable edition key.

A Bookshop.org list records curation, not sales rank

A public list or bookstore storefront can show a curator and selected titles. Preserve the list URL, visible byline, book-to-list membership, displayed position if present and observation date. Bookshop.org documents bookstore and non-bookstore affiliates and a last-touch commission rule. Neither the public label nor list sequence reveals the resulting transaction or proves a book's popularity.

Keep each price observation tied to its exact format and date

For a useful comparison, retain the page URL, selected format and displayed identifier, exact price label, currency and observation time. Record visible availability wording against the same selection. A displayed amount may not include tax, shipping or checkout adjustments, and a bookstore or affiliate attribution is not evidence of that store's inventory.

Keep ebook and audiobook destinations as separate records

Bookshop.org's Digital Books Terms describe ebooks as licensed digital goods and set additional conditions for their use. Keep an ebook's own format and any displayed identifier attached to the digital choice. Bookshop.org says an audiobook link, when displayed on a title page, goes to Libro.fm; record that external destination separately instead of treating it as a Bookshop.org-hosted audiobook.
