Away luggage data: carry-on models, fit and warranty
Compare Away Series 3 and Classic carry-ons by model, inside and outside dimensions, Flex state, airline evidence, battery generation and warranty date.
Away luggage models: keep Series 3 and Classic names distinct
This page covers Away, the luggage and travel-goods brand at awaytravel.com. It does not refer to a trip destination or every business using the word Away. The U.S. comparison page currently lists The Carry-On 3, The Carry-On Flex 3, The Bigger Carry-On 3, and The Bigger Carry-On Flex 3 alongside older Classic, Flex, Executive, Topside, and Aluminum Edge lines. A record that says only “Carry-On” can mix models with different dimensions, construction, and features.

| Source label to preserve | What it identifies | Do not merge with |
|---|---|---|
| Series 3 | The Carry-On 3, The Carry-On Flex 3, The Bigger Carry-On 3, and The Bigger Carry-On Flex 3. | Older names without the “3” suffix; Series 3 has its own dimensions and feature set. |
| Classic and Flex | The existing Carry-On, Bigger Carry-On, Carry-On Flex, and Bigger Carry-On Flex listings. | Series 3 versions; keep the exact page title, selected color, and product URL. |
| The Medium | A separate checked suitcase. Away says it exceeds carry-on size limits; this guide does not place it in the carry-on size table. | Any Carry-On or Bigger Carry-On row. It is included only as a checked-size boundary example. |
Compare the U.S. Series 3 carry-on rows
These are the four Series 3 values in Away’s U.S. comparison page, checked October 3, 2026. Dimensions are shown in Away’s order; Flex depth and capacity are separated by expansion state. The comparison table does not provide interior dimensions for every row, so do not fill gaps from a different model.

| Exact U.S. model | Exterior dimensions, empty weight, and capacity | Expansion state and Away fit wording |
|---|---|---|
| The Carry-On 3 | 22.1 × 14.4 × 9.1 in · 8.6 lb · 41 L | No expanded capacity shown in this comparison row; Away says it fits overhead on most major airlines. |
| The Carry-On Flex 3 | 22.1 × 14.4 × 9.1 in closed · 9 lb · 41 L closed → 47 L expanded | +2.25 in depth when expanded; Away says it fits on almost any flight when unexpanded. |
| The Bigger Carry-On 3 | 23 × 15.4 × 9.4 in · 9 lb · 49 L | No expanded capacity shown in this comparison row; Away says it fits overhead on most major U.S. airlines. |
| The Bigger Carry-On Flex 3 | 23 × 15.4 × 9.4 in closed · 9.5 lb · 49 L closed → 56 L expanded | +2.25 in depth when expanded; Away says it fits overhead on most major U.S. airlines when unexpanded. |
Store exterior and interior measurements with their source section
A product page can contain a more precise measurement than the comparison table, and one product page can disagree with its own FAQ. Store exterior and interior fields separately with their exact model, page section, dimension scope, URL, and observation time. Do not average the values or attach a Classic measurement to Series 3.

| Exact source and section | Measurement evidence checked October 3, 2026 | How to keep it distinct |
|---|---|---|
| The Carry-On 3 · product page Size section | Exterior 22.1 × 14.4 × 9.1 in; interior 20.1 × 13.9 × 7.5 in; 8.6 lb; 41 L. The page says exterior measurements include handles and wheels. | Series 3 product detail, color Coast Blue; do not use for the older Carry-On. |
| The Carry-On Flex 3 · product page Size section | Exterior 22.1 × 14.5 × 9.1 in; interior 20 × 13.5 in; 9 lb; 41 L/47 L. Its note says measurements include wheels. | The comparison table gives 14.4 in for the middle dimension. Preserve both page locations and values. |
| The Bigger Carry-On Flex 3 · product page Size section | Exterior 23 × 15.4 × 9.4 in; interior 20.9 × 15 × 7.9 in; 9.5 lb; 49 L. Its note says measurements include handles and wheels. | The comparison page supplies 56 L expanded and +2.25 in depth; keep those as comparison-page fields. |
| The Carry-On in Stormy Teal · legacy product Size section vs embedded FAQ | Size: 22 × 14.4 × 9.1 in exterior, 20.1 × 13.9 × 7.5 in interior, 7.5 lb, 41 L; handles and wheels included. The FAQ still says 21.7 × 14.4 × 9 in. | Both values belong to the non-Series-3 product page and must retain their section labels; do not overwrite or average. |
Airline-fit evidence changes with model and expansion
Away reports that it tested every Carry-On and Bigger Carry-On in airline sizers at JFK, LGA, and EWR in November 2025. This is a dated brand-reported method, not an airline guarantee or independent certification. Away’s own claims distinguish the standard and Bigger sizes; a Flex bag’s closed dimensions do not describe its expanded depth.

| Fit evidence | What the source says | Record boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Airport sizer test | Away says it tested every Carry-On and Bigger Carry-On in sizers at JFK, LGA, and EWR in November 2025. | Store the source, test date, airport scope, and Away attribution; do not call it airline approval. |
| The Carry-On 3 and Carry-On Flex 3 | Away describes the Carry-On 3 as fitting overhead on most major airlines and the Flex 3 claim as applying when unexpanded. | Do not promise fit on every aircraft, flight, or carrier. |
| The Bigger Carry-On 3 and Bigger Carry-On Flex 3 | Away uses the narrower wording “most major U.S. airlines”; Flex fit wording applies when unexpanded. | Keep the U.S. scope and closed/expanded state with the claim. |
| Expanded Flex state | Flex adds 2.25 in of depth; Away notes that a fully expanded suitcase may need to be checked depending on the plane. | Compare expanded exterior depth separately and do not guarantee overhead-bin acceptance. |
Generation, color and shell features belong to the selected item
Away exposes a U.S., Canadian, and U.K. storefront selector. A matched record should identify the selected storefront and currency as seen, then retain the exact model generation, size, finish/color, visible SKU or variant token when present, product URL, source section, and observation time. Product features are generation-specific: current Series 3 pages describe a polycarbonate ShockShield shell, StopLock brakes, WhisperGlide wheels, adjustable trolley, hideaway hooks, and CompressMore system. Do not invent a SKU when the selected listing does not expose one.

| Field group | Away-specific values to retain | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Product identity | Away luggage entity; Series 3 / Classic / Flex / other named family; exact model and size; selected color or finish. | The name “Carry-On” appears across distinct families and generations. |
| Selected variant and market | Selected color, visible SKU or variant ID if shown, country storefront, currency, product URL, observation timestamp. | Color availability, offer wording, preorder status, and return treatment can vary by listing and market. |
| Physical and feature evidence | Exterior and interior dimensions, measurement scope, units, expansion state, empty weight, liters, shell material, and model-specific features. | Do not merge variant-level color/accessory state with model-wide dimensions or assign Series 3 features to Classic. |
| Commercial context | For the exact storefront and selected variant, retain any displayed price/currency, availability wording, product URL and observation time together. | Offer state can vary by market, selected variant and capture time; keep it separate from model-level specifications. |
Legacy battery guidance and warranty cohorts are time-scoped
Away’s battery instructions concern an older Classic Carry-On, while its current policy separates luggage coverage by purchase timestamp. A product’s return condition is independent of its warranty cohort. Keep these as three distinct fields rather than one general “warranty” value.

| Item or purchase cohort | Official Away statement | Record separately |
|---|---|---|
| Classic suitcase sold before July 2023 with a battery already installed | Away’s battery page describes a removable 37-watt lithium-ion battery. If this suitcase is checked or gate-checked, Away says the battery must be removed and brought into the cabin. | Legacy model/date and whether a battery is present. Current Classic designs have no battery and do not accommodate one; do not apply the old guidance to Series 3. |
| Luggage bought on/after 8:00 a.m. EST, April 14, 2026 | Away LifetimeCare: complimentary repairs for functional damage in years 1–5 and one replacement in that period if covered damage cannot be repaired. Repair support continues; Away states in-store repairs remain complimentary and shipping is covered. | Purchase timestamp, applicable policy, covered damage, repair/replacement term, and any service fee. |
| LifetimeCare Pro, if purchased | Away describes 10 years of complimentary repairs and up to two replacements in that period if covered damage cannot be repaired. | Optional plan purchase; never imply it is included unless the order evidence says so. |
| Luggage bought before the cutoff | Away directs these purchases to the Limited Lifetime Warranty in effect at purchase; the warranty page says purchase evidence is required to determine applicability. | Purchase date, policy version, original purchaser/recipient context and available proof. |
| Bags/accessories and returns | Away gives bags and accessories a separate limited warranty. Product pages may say eligible unused items can be returned within 100 days, while a specific listing may be marked final sale. | Keep product class and item/variant-level return terms independent from suitcase coverage. |
Read the U.S. Terms beside a dated manual record
The U.S. Terms of Use page displays “Last Updated: September 12, 2025”; the terms were checked for this brief on October 3, 2026. Section 9 restricts attempts to access, search, or download content using automated engines, software, tools, agents, spiders, robots, crawlers, or data-mining tools except Away-provided software/search agents or generally available third-party browsers. It also restricts commercial or third-party-benefit use and collecting other users’ personally identifiable information without express permission. This is an attributed summary of the posted U.S. terms, not a legal conclusion or an international statement. Public product pages do not imply permission for automated collection. The Carry-On 3 product-page measurement documented in Section 3 is a dated example from its Size section.
